I must admit, I was a tad concerned after stumbling upon the not-so-great reviews for this particular pressing, but boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise! My copy turned out to be super clear and free of any issues. I guess I just got fortunate, huh?
The pressing is really good. The disc is perfectly flat, no warping at all. I gave it a quick clean with my spinclean before playing, and it's completely silent, even during the soft parts.
I was genuinely thrilled when Faye announced she was crafting an album brimming with love-drunk tunes, particularly after the raw, heart-wrenching breakup stories she shared on her previous record, 'Atlanta Millionaires Club'. Yet, even though tracks like 'Better Distractions', 'In A Good Way', and 'Cheers' radiate a joyous, almost infatuated love, 'I Know I'm Funny haha' also harbors some gut-wrenchingly sad songs, like 'Both All the Time'. And honestly, the timing couldn't be more perfect for me, as I'm navigating through some similar stuff right now and am ready to fully embrace this heartache. Plus, it's comforting to know I'm not alone in this. The emotional echoes hit their peak on 'A Dream With a Baseball Player', which, by the way, is also one of the best-sounding tracks on the album. The saxophone riff reminds me of the production on 'AMC', and generally, Faye's third album shares a lot of similarities with it. But don't mistake that for a lack of evolution; rather, it's a further refinement of the gentle folk-rock sound she's established in the indie scene. Her work has taught me that there's beauty in simplicity, both lyrically and musically. Yet, Faye's music never falls flat or fades into oblivion. Each song on 'I Know I'm Funny haha' has its own unique personality, even though they all share a similar sonic kinship. She pens about the simplest thoughts swirling in her mind and pairs them with a delightful framework of understated guitars, bass, and drums. Still, the songs never devolve into dull ballads. Only the album's finale, 'Half of Me', adopts such a vibe, but it's far from boring, with its acoustic guitar hints of traditional Latin music lurking in its subdued strumming.Another standout is 'Kind Of', nestled in the album's more love-struck first half. It explores that very contentment we also hear on the phenomenal 'Better Distractions', especially because Faye's voice cracks so genuinely in the chorus, almost as if she can't quite believe her luck in having the person she loves by her side. But it's also one of the album's best production-wise, fulfilling any rock-organ fantasies and morphing into a perfect, subtle country number.I don't think I've ever given a new album a perfect score, but this record is the whole package. It delivers the emotions, the exquisite, well-crafted instrumentation, a flawless runtime, and a stellar aesthetic. This is set to become one of my all-time favorite albums.Favorite tracks: A Dream With a Baseball Player, Kind Of, Better Distractions, Both All the Time
Seems like I got lucky here. The quality is superb, with no noise and excellent dynamics.
My copy sounds absolutely amazing!! The yellow color is gorgeous too, a tad darker than the preview. Plus, this release comes with stickers which is pretty cool lol
