Product description

"Home Run" is a captivating jazz album by the legendary trumpeter Howard McGhee, released in 1999 under the Storyville label. This album is a testament to McGhee's enduring talent and his significant contributions to the bebop and hard bop genres. Recorded with the Benny Bailey Sextet, the album features a stellar lineup of musicians who bring a dynamic energy and sophistication to each track.

The album spans a total of 12 tracks, including standout pieces like "Get It On," "Nostalgia," and "I Rember Clifford," each showcasing McGhee's virtuosic trumpet playing and his ability to convey deep emotion and technical prowess. The tracks range from upbeat, funky numbers to more introspective, bluesy compositions, offering a diverse and engaging listening experience.

"Home Run" is a celebration of jazz tradition, with nods to iconic figures like Clifford Brown and Bud Powell, as heard in tracks like "In Walked Bud" and "I Rember Clifford." The album also includes a unique alternate take on the classic "Alone Together," featuring studio banter that adds a touch of authenticity and spontaneity.

The collaboration between Howard McGhee and Benny Bailey results in a cohesive and vibrant collection of songs that highlight the best of hard bop and post-bop styles. Whether you're a longtime fan of Howard McGhee or a newcomer to his music, "Home Run" is an essential addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection.

This LP was released in 1999.

About Howard McGhee

Howard McGhee, born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1918, was a pioneering figure in the bebop jazz movement, standing alongside legends like Dizzy Gillespie and Fats Navarro. Known for his blazingly fast fingering and high notes, McGhee's unique sound and virtuosic technique made him a standout performer and a influential force in the early development of bebop.
