  • Capitol Studios Jazz Brilliance

    5 out of 5 stars

I'd love to dig up more details about these Capitol Studios sessions in Hollywood (pre-Capitol Tower) from 1945. Hawk's band is absolutely killing it, reaching new heights of brilliance, and the recordings themselves are phenomenal! Where exactly was this studio located? How were the mics set up? Who engineered these tracks? Why isn't this collection hailed as one of the greatest in jazz history? This album sparkles with finesse, groove, and attitude. How many stars? Give it every single one!

His innovative approach to improvisation and his deep musical knowledge made him a consistently modern and influential figure. Whether you're diving into his early recordings or exploring his later works, Coleman Hawkins' music offers a journey through the evolution of jazz, showcasing his enduring mastery and creativity.
