Product description

"Hit The Road To Dreamland" is a captivating vocal jazz album by the renowned Cleo Laine, released in 2006 under the BritBop label. This collection of 14 tracks, spanning a total of 43 minutes, showcases Laine's exceptional vocal prowess and her ability to breathe new life into classic jazz standards.

The album opens with the title track, "Hit The Road To Dreamland," a song originally written by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen, and first recorded by Freddie Slack and His Orchestra. Laine's rendition sets the tone for the rest of the album, which includes a mix of well-known jazz tunes and lesser-known gems.

From the playful "T'Ain't What You Do (It's The Way That Cha Do It)" to the melancholic "Stormy Weather," and the sultry "Mood Indigo," Laine's voice shines through each track. She also delivers a powerful performance on "The Lady Sings The Blues," a nod to her own illustrious career in jazz.

Laine's interpretation of "Mad About The Boy," originally a pop song, demonstrates her versatility and ability to adapt different genres to her unique vocal style. The album also features duets and collaborative pieces, highlighting Laine's ability to connect with other musicians and create a cohesive sound.

"Hit The Road To Dreamland" is a testament to Cleo Laine's enduring talent and her significant contributions to the world of vocal jazz. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to her music, this album offers a delightful journey through the rich history of jazz, as seen through the eyes of one of its most celebrated artists.
