Product description

Friedrich Gulda, the Austrian virtuoso known for his mastery in both classical and jazz realms, presents "Gulda - Solo Piano Works," a captivating compilation set to release on March 19, 2025, under UME - Global Clearing House. This album is a testament to Gulda's extraordinary versatility and skill, featuring a diverse array of compositions that span from the intricate preludes of Chopin to the dynamic sonatas of Mozart, and the evocative suites of Bach.

The album opens with Mozart's "Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major, K. 331: III. Alla Turca," a lively and spirited piece that sets the tone for the eclectic journey ahead. Chopin's "24 Préludes, Op. 28" form a significant portion of the album, showcasing Gulda's ability to navigate the delicate nuances and emotional depth of these timeless compositions. The inclusion of Schumann's "8 Fantasiestücke, Op. 12" adds a touch of romanticism and introspection, while Bach's "English Suites" bring a sense of grandeur and complexity to the collection.

Gulda's own compositions, such as "Epitaph für eine Liebe," offer a personal and introspective glimpse into his artistic vision. The album also features works by other notable composers, including a lively waltz and a captivating capriccio, further highlighting Gulda's diverse repertoire.

About Friedrich Gulda

Friedrich Gulda was an Austrian musical maverick, equally at home in the worlds of classical and jazz piano. Born in Vienna in 1930, Gulda began his piano journey at the age of seven and went on to win the prestigious Geneva International Music Competition in 1946. His career was marked by a fearless blending of genres, with a discography that includes not just classical masterpieces like Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas, but also spontaneous jazz improvisations and collaborations with legends like Joe Zawinul and Chick Corea. Gulda's compositions often fused notated music with large improvised sections, reflecting his belief in the power of spontaneity. Known for his eccentric stage personality and unconventional ideas, Gulda earned the nickname 'terrorist-pianist,' challenging musical norms and leaving an indelible mark on both the classical and jazz scenes. His legacy continues to inspire, with his interdisciplinary approach and artistic heritage celebrated through various events and exhibitions.
