About Ben Riley

Ben Riley was a renowned American jazz drummer, celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the hard bop and bebop genres. Born on July 17, 1933, Riley's career spanned several decades, leaving an indelible mark on the jazz scene. He is best known for his collaborative work with legendary pianist Thelonious Monk, but his talent also graced the performances of other jazz greats like Alice Coltrane, Stan Getz, and Ahmad Jamal. In the 1970s and 1980s, Riley was a key member of the New York Jazz Quartet, further cementing his reputation as a versatile and dynamic drummer. His strong rhythmic support elevated numerous advanced bop sessions, making him a sought-after musician in the jazz community. Riley's passing on November 18, 2017, marked the end of an era, but his musical legacy continues to inspire and enchant jazz enthusiasts worldwide.
