Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Edward MacDowell's piano compositions with this captivating album, released on January 1, 2005, under The Gift of Music label. Spanning a duration of one hour, this collection is a delightful blend of MacDowell's evocative works, showcasing his mastery of the piano and his ability to paint vivid musical landscapes.

The album opens with Charles Tomlinson Griffes' "Roman Sketches," a set of three pieces that transport you to the heart of Rome, each sketch offering a unique glimpse into the city's rich cultural tapestry. Following this, MacDowell's "Piano Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 23" takes center stage, a three-movement work that highlights the composer's romantic and lyrical style, with the second movement, "Presto giocoso," being a particular standout for its playful and energetic character.

The heart of the album lies in MacDowell's "Woodland Sketches, Op. 51," a collection of thirteen miniatures that capture the essence of nature and the changing seasons. Each sketch is a miniature masterpiece, from the delicate "To a Wild Rose" to the whimsical "Will o' the wisp," and the nostalgic "At an Old Trysting Place." The final sketch, "Starlight," is a serene and introspective piece that brings the album to a gentle close.

Edward MacDowell, an American composer and pianist, was known for his lyrical and romantic style, often drawing inspiration from nature and literature. His works, including those on this album, are celebrated for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. This album is a testament to MacDowell's enduring legacy and offers a rich and rewarding listening experience for classical music enthusiasts.
