Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical piano with Benno Moiseiwitsch's "Grieg / Saint-Saens: Piano Concertos / Liszt: Hungarian Fantasy." This album, released on July 14, 2002, by Naxos, is a testament to Moiseiwitsch's virtuosity and his deep connection with the romantic repertoire. Spanning a duration of 1 hour and 4 minutes, the album features a selection of piano concertos and a fantasy that showcase Moiseiwitsch's technical brilliance and expressive depth.

The album opens with Franz Liszt's "Fantasia on Hungarian Folk Themes, S. 123," a piece that highlights Moiseiwitsch's ability to blend folk melodies with virtuosic piano playing. The program continues with Edvard Grieg's "Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16," a work that demonstrates Moiseiwitsch's sensitivity and nuance in interpreting the romantic idiom. The concerto's three movements are filled with lyrical melodies and dramatic contrasts, providing a rich tapestry of emotions.

Camille Saint-Saens' "Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 22" completes the album, showcasing Moiseiwitsch's command of the piano's dynamic range and his ability to convey the work's playful and dramatic elements. The concerto's three movements are marked by their rhythmic drive and melodic inventiveness, making it a highlight of the album.

Recorded between 1939 and 1947, these performances capture Moiseiwitsch at the height of his powers, offering a glimpse into the golden age of classical piano. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to delight and inspire.
