Product description

Doc Watson's "Good Deal!" is a captivating collection of traditional folk, bluegrass, and country blues that showcases the masterful musicianship of one of the genre's most celebrated artists. Released on January 1, 1996, via Vanguard Records, this album spans a concise yet engaging 38 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of classic and reimagined tracks.

The album opens with the lively "Alabama Jubilee," setting the tone for a journey through timeless tunes like "June Apple" and "Bye Bye Blues." Watson's virtuosic flatpicking and soulful vocals shine on tracks such as "I'm Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes" and "The Girl In The Blue Velvet Band," while his innovative approach to traditional folk is evident in the "Memphis Blues - Remix" and "The Train That Carried My Girl From Town - Vanguard Version."

  • Doc Watson's Studio Gem

    5 out of 5 stars
    Tewyiy_ZxokjwaxJune 18, 2024United States🇺🇸

Released in 1968, this is, to my knowledge, Doc's sole significant studio project. It boasts a grand sound, blending Country, Oldtime, and Bluegrass elements, with an all-star lineup featuring Buddy Spicher and Tommy Jackson on fiddles, Don Stover on banjo, Grady Martin and Merle Watson on guitars, Shot Jackson on dobro, Floyd Cramer on piano, Buddy Harmon on drums, and Junior Huskey on bass. Doc himself handles guitar and vocals. The track listing is fantastic, offering a mix of vocal numbers and instrumentals. A must-have for any diverse Country Music compilation!
