Outstanding performance by the DBQ, with a standout moment being Joe Morello's drum solo on Short’nin’ Bread (A2)
Great release! It's a bit different from the original, but not by much. The soundstage is more impressive on the first issue, but this one still rocks! This recording truly deserves the top-notch treatment from Impex Records or Analogue Productions.
Nearly all of DDQ is recorded wonderfully, and this track is no exception. I've got the first pressing and a later purple label version, both sounding fantastic. But this one really shines with its incredible depth, stage presence, and separation. Dave takes the lead but gives Paul his due, placing him front and center. It's so natural sounding, the drums and piano echoing through the channels like you're there live. Sax and bass are centered with a real sense of depth. The tunes are smooth and sultry, perfect for late-night listening. I'm amazed this can be found so cheap. If this got the full analog audiophile treatment, it would absolutely blow everyone's minds.
This copy is well-made, with a lively sound that's clear and has minimal surface noise. It's really dynamic, letting you hear exactly where each player is positioned in the recording.
The digital mastering is top-notch. Gene’s bass really packs a punch in the lower frequencies. Great, expansive soundstage.
