Product description

"George Shearing & The Montgomery Brothers" is a captivating jazz album released posthumously on December 25, 2011, under the CoolNote label. This collaboration between the legendary British jazz pianist George Shearing and the iconic American jazz guitarist brothers—Wes, Buddy, and Monk Montgomery—offers a unique blend of cool jazz, vocal jazz, and traditional jazz, all wrapped up in a concise 37-minute package.

The album features 11 tracks, including the enchanting "Love Walked In," the sultry "Love For Sale," and the dreamy "Darn That Dream." Each song showcases the impeccable chemistry between Shearing and the Montgomery Brothers, creating a sound that is both timeless and innovative. The brothers' distinctive bass and guitar interplay complements Shearing's signature harmonic style, resulting in a rich, textured sound that is quintessentially cool jazz.

This album is a testament to the enduring legacy of these jazz greats. George Shearing, who passed away in February 2011, was known for his virtuosic piano playing and his contributions to the cool jazz movement. The Montgomery Brothers, each a virtuoso in their own right, brought their unique styles to the collaboration, with Wes Montgomery's melodic genius, Buddy Montgomery's harmonic sophistication, and Monk Montgomery's rhythmic precision.

"George Shearing & The Montgomery Brothers" is not just a collection of songs; it's a celebration of jazz history and the enduring power of musical collaboration. Whether you're a longtime fan of jazz or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich, rewarding listening experience that highlights the beauty and complexity of cool jazz.

About George Shearing

George Shearing, the renowned British-American jazz pianist, captivated audiences worldwide with his inventive and melodic style. Born blind in Battersea, London, in 1919, Shearing overcame significant obstacles to become one of the most popular jazz musicians of the 20th century. His career spanned decades, from the 1930s through the 2010s, during which he led a highly acclaimed jazz combo and composed over 300 pieces, including the timeless classic "Lullaby of Birdland." Shearing's talent extended beyond the piano; he was also a gifted arranger and composer, known for his orchestrated jazz and romantic solos. His international reputation was cemented through performances on both the concert stage and in intimate jazz clubs, making him a beloved figure in the jazz community until his passing in 2011.
