Product description

"Gaslini Plays Monk" is a captivating jazz album by the renowned Italian pianist and composer Giorgio Gaslini, released on December 31, 1981, under the Soul Note label. This 40-minute journey through the world of jazz is a tribute to the legendary Thelonious Monk, featuring a collection of his iconic compositions reimagined by Gaslini's unique artistic vision.

The album opens with "Monk's Mood," setting the tone for the rest of the tracks. Gaslini's interpretation of "Round About Midnight" brings a fresh perspective to this jazz standard, while "Ask Me Now" showcases his delicate touch and nuanced phrasing. "Blue Monk" and "Ruby My Dear" are rendered with a sense of intimacy and warmth, highlighting Gaslini's ability to convey deep emotion through his playing.

Throughout the album, Gaslini's virtuosic technique and innovative approach to Monk's compositions shine. Tracks like "Let's Call This" and "Let's Cool One" demonstrate his playful side, while "Pannonica" and "Epistrophy" showcase his mastery of complex rhythms and harmonies. Each piece is a testament to Gaslini's deep understanding of Monk's music and his ability to reinterpret it in a way that feels both familiar and excitingly new.

"Gaslini Plays Monk" is a must-listen for jazz enthusiasts and anyone looking to explore the rich tapestry of jazz piano. It's a celebration of two great artists and a testament to the enduring power of jazz music.

This LP was released in 1981.

An amazing album that might always stay under the radar. Fantastic performance and brilliant sound (just like most Soul Note and Black Saint releases). If you're into solo piano, do yourself a favor and give this a listen.
