Product description

Robert Spano brings a captivating collection of orchestral works to life in "Gandolfi, Prior & Oliverio: Orchestral Works," released on March 27, 2020, under ASO Media. This album is a testament to Spano's mastery and the composers' ingenuity, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that span from the ethereal to the powerful.

The album opens with Gandolfi's "Imaginary Numbers," a four-movement suite that explores the beauty of mathematical concepts through music. Each movement, from the serene "Sky and Water" to the intricate "Mandelbrot’s Scherzo," showcases Gandolfi's unique ability to translate abstract ideas into compelling musical narratives.

Prior's "Of Shadow and Light" follows, a piece that delves into the dualities of existence, with Spano conducting the orchestra through a journey of contrasts and harmonies.

The album's centerpiece is Oliverio's "Double Timpani Concerto 'Dynasty'," a five-movement work that highlights the timpani's versatility and power. From the impetuous energy of the first movement to the reflective "Interlude" and the triumphant "Destiny," this concerto is a tour de force of orchestral composition and performance.

With a duration of 1 hour and 5 minutes, this album is a comprehensive exploration of modern orchestral music, offering a blend of innovation and tradition that is sure to resonate with both seasoned classical music enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
