FYI folks: Discogs lists "Matrix / Runout (A): 1711 1A 05099963253016 MIKE'S™ - THE EXCHANGE MMM B" but I don't see the B on mine. On my version, all 4 runouts just say "05099963253016 MIKE'S™ - THE EXCHANGE MMM".. I put it on discogs as a different copy...
The Chemical Brothers have returned to their roots! 4 to 5 stars They've experimented with various styles since Surrender (1999). Come With Us, Push The Button, The Boxer, We Are The Night - so many lackluster albums with so few standout tracks in my opinion - even if they are technically flawless. I've been quite let down by their artistic decisions for a while now, but they're back to their original sound! I personally loved 5 tracks (a great score for an album): Snow: Nothing more to say than what 440lp's review already covered - a super trippy slow song, with ethereal vocals reminiscent of Dig Your Own Hole - Where Do I Begin. Dissolve: An amazing track that could've easily been on Surrender - it's got references to Sunshine Underground and incredible soundscapes. Horse Power: When repetition is just awesome! A Prodigy-style track, a delight for the ears, with drum room-style reverbs and nods to Surrender - Music Response. Swoon: An over-saturated melody, a trippy Daft Punk-style track. K+D+B: Long soundscapes, progressive with self-references to tracks like Surrender - The Sunshine Underground. Wonders Of The Deep: A fantastic track that perfectly concludes the album and can be compared to Push The Button - Surface To Air. My final thoughts: I'm thrilled to hear them again. I thought they had given up and permanently switched to a bland and commercial style. Welcome back to my Hall Of Fame, Bro's! A must-have - rush to your nearest music store.
Got this one M/M still. Number 90 out of 1000🙃 It's an incredible album. It's still sealed. I have the re-issue, so no need to open this one🙂
I've listened to this in countless formats and versions. This particular pressing and the audio quality are absolutely amazing, practically perfect. I always make sure to listen at the right volume, and I've never had anything to complain about.
Sadly, I'm joining the negative reviews - in my view, this is The Bros' weakest album. 'Swoon' stands out as one of their best tracks ever, but overall, it's disappointing. It lacks dynamics, has filler tracks, and just isn't up to par... 'We are the night' wasn't 'good', but it was a bit 'better'. Their last strong point was 'Push the button', in my opinion.
