Incredible new album with lyrics that truly resonate! The opening track, THE KEEPER, performed by Robin Campbell, captures the authentic UB40 vibe and carries lyrics that a person in love would dedicate to their beloved. Next up is Broken Man, featuring more brilliant words, followed by Gravy Train, a song that critiques the wealthy on their privileged journey. Duncan Campbell sings about how one could work for a century and still not secure a spot on that Gravy Train. My personal favorite for its lyrical depth is I'M ALRIGHT JACK, which portrays a Tory politician boasting about their prosperity, renting out a second home, and dismissing complaints about the lack of state housing. Duncan Campbell's words strike a chord, addressing those who grumble about taxes and legal scams, with the defiant line, 'You Can't have it back.' Moonlight Lover follows, with vocals by Norman Hassan, an original member, and backing vocals by Gilly G. This track flows beautifully, leading into You Haven't Called, where Duncan Campbell expresses the anguish of waiting for a call that never comes, counting the wallpaper flowers in the meantime. Then come two tracks that feel like MIDI dance tunes, packed with powerful lyrics by Earl Falconer, another original member who takes the lead vocals on What Happened to UB40 and Bulldozer. Poor Fool is next, embodying that classic UB40 feel, and the album closes with All We Do Is Cry, a poignant song about the innocent children who suffer while the world stands idle. The DUB album is also phenomenal, possibly one of the best I've ever heard. I've been a fan of this band since 1980, and this album brings back that incredible feel. The Keeper even features Brian Travers, the original saxophone player, who plays the 'Love Is All is Alright' part at the end, sending shivers down my spine. Get well soon, Brian, after your brain tumor operation.
