  • Top-Notch UH Album

Amazing album! Plus, it's one of my top picks from UH, and the pressing quality is just outstanding. The sound is fantastic, really well-balanced and a blast to listen to. The dynamics and channel separation are top-notch. I was lucky to snag this one in mint condition, so it's earned a special spot in my collection.

  • Disappointing Album, Poor Sound Quality

    3 out of 5 stars
    rajeklykuejatcJanuary 29, 2025United States🇺🇸

This album just doesn't resonate with me. By this stage, the band had moved away from the darker themes and sounds they were previously known for (like in "Return to Fantasy"), which makes this album feel quite average. There are a few decent tracks scattered throughout, and I'll admit that side 2 is an improvement over side 1, but it's still not impressive. The record gains some momentum on side 2 but ultimately falls flat with "Firefly", the closing track. There are some neat studio effects and solid guitar work on it, but those vocals just don't work for me. They sound like a typical radio song and lack any real depth. Plus, the song's structure is a complete mess. As for this U.S. pressing, it's a bit strange to my ears. First off, side 1 needs to be played super loud, even more than side 2, but that's fine. The real problem is how bass-heavy it is. The low end is overwhelming, to the point where some of the higher frequencies get lost. I think this is due to the mix rather than the vinyl mastering, but it's still an odd sound. I definitely had to boost the treble a bit. Also, it would've been great if this was a gatefold. Looking at the cover art, it's clear that it was designed to be one. Oh well!
