About Muhal Richard Abrams

Muhal Richard Abrams was a pioneering figure in the world of jazz, renowned for his innovative compositions and virtuosic performances as a pianist, clarinetist, and cellist. Born and raised in the United States, Abrams was deeply influenced by the bebop innovations of Bud Powell and went on to become a key figure in the free jazz and avant-garde movements. Abrams co-founded the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting creative music and its artists. Throughout his career, he recorded and toured extensively, both as a solo artist and with various ensembles, leaving behind a rich discography that includes works like "Spihumonesty," "Mama and Daddy," and "Blues Forever."
