Product description

Taj Mahal's 1978 album "Evolution" is a captivating blend of blues, jazz, and funk, showcasing the artist's versatility and growth as a musician. Released under Warner Music Group, this nine-track album spans a concise 36 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that evolve seamlessly from one track to the next.

The album opens with "Sing a Happy Song," setting a lively tone that contrasts with the sultry blues of "Queen Bee." Taj Mahal's mastery of the blues is evident in tracks like "Lowdown Showdown" and "Why You Do Me This Way," where his soulful vocals and intricate guitar work shine. The album also ventures into Latin jazz with "Salsa De Laventille," adding a vibrant, rhythmic twist to the collection.

One of the standout tracks, "The Most Recent (Evolution) of Muthafusticus Modernusticus," exemplifies Taj Mahal's innovative approach, blending funk and soul with his signature blues style. The album closes with "Southbound with the Hammer Down," a high-energy track that leaves the listener with a sense of exhilaration.

"Evolution" is a testament to Taj Mahal's ability to transcend traditional blues, incorporating elements of jazz, funk, and Latin music to create a unique and dynamic listening experience. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to his music, this album offers a compelling journey through the diverse soundscape of one of the blues' most influential artists.

This LP was released in 1978.

  • Taj Mahal's Roots Magic

    5 out of 5 stars
    NurlmQeTaexJanuary 23, 2025United States🇺🇸

Taj Mahal is the man. I caught his show at Byron Bay Bluesfest. I'm all about his diverse blend of roots tunes. I grabbed my copy from a second-hand spot (Habitat for Humanity ReStore Te Rapa) for a buck. It's got tons of surface scratches and crackles like you wouldn't believe, but I'm into it and think it sounds awesome. I reckon the last owner used this vinyl as a frisbee on the sand. No clue why, but hey, just take care of your records so when you kick the bucket and your kids inherit them, they won't be all messed up. Favorite track: "Queen Bee." This jam is part of Taj's live sets and nails it every time.
