  • Best Sounding Album Ever

  • Unexpected Vinyl Gem

    5 out of 5 stars
    de-dayuzevitcMay 16, 2025United States๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Quite unexpectedly, this vinyl record is fantastic both in terms of the recording and the pressing! Over the past few months, I've been trying out audiophile releases that cost over a hundred bucks and I've noticed a trend: you start to expect a lot more from the expensive ones, and then you're pleasantly surprised by the budget-friendly ones that sound almost as good, but for a fraction of the price! This vinyl was pressed in 1990, right in the middle of the so-called 'dead vinyl era,' and the label saying 'also available on cassette and CD' is a clear indication of that. So, I figured that even if the source was decent, no one would put in much effort to make it sound great. But boy, was I wrong! The piano sounds as clear and loud as on My Sony Clark's trio of Blue Note TP series, and what I like the most is that it's right in the center! The bass is huge and distinct too. The weakest part is the cymbals and the highs in general, like the record had some High Freq. roll-off... (maybe the source WAS a cassette, who knows...) But for an affordable record (with an amazing album, of course), it's a cool find. Sure, it's not as realistic 'attack-wise' as TP, and it's nowhere near the harmonic and tonal richness of Analogue Productions or other audiophile releases, but if you overlook the highs, it's like a good TP release for an entry-level price. Highly recommended! Pro-Ject Carbon EVO II > SUMIKO Moonstone > Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 > Yamaha AS-501 > Monitor Audio Bronze

  • Vinyl Surprise: Great Sound, Low Price

Surprisingly great vinyl: the recording and pressing! For a few months already I've been experimenting with 100$+ audiophile releases and notice a pattern: you start to expect much more for the expensive releases, and get surprised from the budget but good quality releases when they sound not too far, but for 10-15 times less price! This vinyl is pressed in 1990 during the "dead vinyl era" and the sign "also available on cassette and CD" indicates that. So I thought even if the source was ok, no one would put some effort to make it issued well. The sound of piano is as on My Sony Clark's trio of Blue Note TP series: clear, loud, and what I like the best, it's in the center! The base is huge and distinct as well. The weakest point is cymbals and highs in general, like the record had some High Freq. roll-off... (may be the source WAS a cassette, who knows...) But as for the affordable record (with the great album of course) it's a cool find. Yes, it's not as realistic "attack-wise" as TP, and sure far from harmonic and tonal richness of Analogue Productions or other audiophile releases, but if not the highs it's like a good TP release for entry-level price. • Underrated Jazz Gem

    5 out of 5 stars
    qekaciygeMay 18, 2024United States๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

This album is so overlooked in Contemporaryโ€™s collection and jazz in general. Skipped school during my final year of high school back in 2020 to hunt for records at an antique mall and stumbled upon this gem for just $5. The sound quality is absolutely fantastic!
