Released in 2010 under Master Classics Records, this album is a testament to Monterose's mastery of the jazz genre, offering a deep dive into his lesser-known but equally captivating discography.

J.R. Monterose, a tenor saxophonist with a distinctive voice, delivers a powerful performance throughout the album. Tracks like "Rural Route," "Promised Land," and "Red Devil" showcase his technical prowess and emotional depth, while "I Should Care" and "Lover Man" highlight his ability to convey raw, unfiltered emotion. The album also features a standout rendition of "I Remember Clifford," a tribute to the legendary Clifford Brown.

About J.R. Monterose

J.R. Monterose, born Frank Anthony Peter Vincent Monterose Jr., was a celebrated American jazz saxophonist known for his dynamic performances on both tenor and soprano saxophones. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1927, Monterose's musical journey took him through the vibrant worlds of hard bop and bebop, leaving an indelible mark on the jazz scene. His debut album, fittingly titled "J.R. Monterose," was released in 1957 and showcased his distinctive style and technical prowess. Despite his notable contributions, Monterose is perhaps best remembered for a gig with Charles Mingus, a performance that, while historic, he personally did not enjoy. Monterose's discography is a testament to his enduring talent, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that continue to inspire jazz enthusiasts. His legacy lives on through his recordings, which capture the essence of his innovative spirit and musical genius.
