Product description

Erkki-Sven Tüür, the esteemed Estonian composer, presents his latest masterpiece, "Aeris," set to release on June 20, 2025, under the prestigious ECM New Series label. This album is a captivating exploration of Tüür's distinctive musical language, blending contemporary classical elements with a profound sense of emotional depth and orchestral richness.

"Aeris" features three compelling works: the ethereal "Phantasma," the expansive "Symphony No. 10 'Aeris'," and the introspective "De profundis." Each piece showcases Tüür's ability to craft intricate, evocative soundscapes that resonate with both intellectual rigor and visceral impact. The "Symphony No. 10 'Aeris'" stands out as a monumental work for horn quartet and orchestra, demonstrating Tüür's mastery of large-scale composition and his knack for creating immersive, atmospheric sound worlds.

The album spans a total duration of 61 minutes, offering a substantial and rewarding listening experience. Tüür's collaboration with the Oratorio Orchestral and the conducting prowess of Paavo Järvi further elevate the performances, ensuring a high level of artistic excellence. "Aeris" is a testament to Tüür's enduring creativity and his unique contribution to contemporary classical music. Fans of Tüür's previous works, such as "Musica baltica" and "Canticum Canticorum Caritatis," will find much to appreciate in this latest release, while newcomers will discover a compelling introduction to the composer's distinctive sound.

About Erkki-Sven Tüür

Erkki-Sven Tüür, born on the enchanting island of Hiiumaa, Estonia, is a renowned composer whose musical journey is as captivating as his compositions. Beginning his musical education in Tallinn, Tüür honed his skills in playing the flute and percussion at the esteemed Georg Ots Music School. His early career saw him as a member of the rock band In Spess, but his true calling lay in composition. Tüür studied under the guidance of professor Jaan Rääts at the Tallinn Conservatory and further refined his craft with private lessons from Lepo Sumera.

Tüür's works, such as his Symphony No. 7 "Pietas" and Piano Concerto, have garnered international acclaim and are celebrated for their depth and innovation. His music, often performed by prestigious orchestras and conductors, reflects a unique blend of his classical training and rock influences, creating a sound that is distinctly his own. Tüür's ability to evoke vivid imagery, such as associating the flute with "bright light in the far distance," makes his compositions a rich and immersive experience for any listener.
