An all-time great debut album. Every jazz guitarist is familiar with every note, who hasn't tackled the 'Just friends' solo? And let's not overlook Trudy Pitts on organ, she was incredible yet so overlooked.

This 1967 debut album is hands-down my top Pat Martino record, and it's certainly among his finest work. It's basically an OGD trio record, but with the occasional addition of conga and flute. Pat really channels his idol Wes Montgomery here, doing so in a very tasteful way. He also shows off some impressive clean technique when he wants to. Standout tracks include "El Hombre" with its gorgeous, sinewy flute melody, "A Blues For Mickey-O" featuring a beautifully crafted guitar solo that ends with some authentic Wes-style octaves, and "Just Friends", a lively bebop tune with some flashy clean runs. The recording quality is great, with a bit of grit, and it's well-saturated. The mix is beautiful, and this OJC reissue is a fantastic sounding pressing. I've got nothing bad to say about it. 4.5 stars.
