Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of Gregor Piatigorsky's masterful performances with the release of "Dvorák & Walton: Cello Concertos - Sony Classical Originals." This album, a 2005 remastered collection from RCA Red Seal, showcases Piatigorsky's virtuosity through two iconic cello concertos: Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104, and Sir William Walton's Cello Concerto.

Recorded in 1957, Piatigorsky's rendition of Dvořák's concerto is a classic, celebrated for its depth and technical brilliance. The album also features the world premiere recording of Walton's concerto, composed specifically for Piatigorsky in 1957. The collaboration with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra adds a rich, orchestral depth to these performances.

Spanning a total of 71 minutes, the album includes six tracks, each meticulously remastered to highlight the intricate details of Piatigorsky's playing. The Dvořák concerto is divided into three movements: Allegro, Adagio ma non troppo, and Finale - Allegro moderato, while Walton's concerto is presented in three movements: Moderato, Allegro appassionato, and Tema ed improvvisazioni - Lento - Allegro moderato.

Gregor Piatigorsky, renowned for his partnership with Jascha Heifetz in violin-cello works, brings a unique sensitivity and power to these performances. His interpretation of these concertos is considered by many to be among the finest recordings of these works, making this album a cherished addition to any classical music collection.

Whether you are a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a profound listening experience, showcasing the enduring legacy of Gregor Piatigorsky and the timeless beauty of these concertos.
