I purchased this item new from the now closed Tower Records in Atlanta, and it didn't come with a CD, unlike what's stated in this release listing.
Just getting the hang of (aka trying to wrap my head around what's going on) with these fresh KEF speakers and Sony receiver, but no crackles, static, or annoying button-press sounds (that aren't meant to be there - we're discussing Digital Ash, after all) - a crisp re-release for the less attractive, not cool in school, mentally challenged but still top-notch sibling of Wide Awake...
Without a doubt, this is my most beloved Bright Eyes album. The UK version is fantastic as well - there's a couple of brief silent gaps on the opening track, but apart from that, it's incredibly clear and crisp with superb stereo separation and zero distortion right until the end of each side, even with the small run-out on side two. It had been ages since I last played it, and I've upgraded some of my equipment since then, and I was absolutely amazed by how it sounded with the 2m bronze. So much detail I'd never picked up before, those strings swelling all over the place, the rhythm track separation on tracks like Gold Mine, the punch of the drums on Time Code - honestly can't picture the 2LP sounding any better than this.
It seems like the proofreader might have missed something - the insert has a ‘SIDE 3’ label, even though this is just a single LP. This mistake wasn’t there in the original versions, so it probably slipped in after the 2LP release.
The quality of my copy is quite poor, as it has significant surface noise even after I gave it a good clean. The inner label on the record itself is quite roughly attached, and it's already starting to peel off.
