Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Frederick Delius with this captivating album, released on May 1, 1992, under Decca Music Group Ltd. This collection showcases Delius' masterful compositions, performed by the esteemed Welsh National Opera Orchestra, with Sir Charles Mackerras conducting and Tasmin Little on violin. The album spans a rich hour and fourteen minutes, offering a diverse range of pieces that highlight Delius' unique musical voice.

The album opens with the stunning Violin Concerto, a piece that demonstrates Delius' ability to blend lyrical melodies with intricate orchestration. Following this, the Two Aquarelles present a delightful contrast, with their light and airy character. The evocative On Hearing The First Cuckoo In Spring captures the essence of a spring morning, while Summer Night on the River paints a serene and picturesque nocturnal scene.

The album also features two Dance Rhapsodies, Nos. 1 & 2, which showcase Delius' skill in creating rhythmic and dynamic compositions that are both engaging and sophisticated. Additionally, the Intermezzo from 'Fennimore and Gerda' and the Prelude to "Irmelin" offer glimpses into Delius' dramatic and narrative works.

This album is a testament to Delius' enduring legacy and his ability to create music that is both deeply expressive and universally appealing. Whether you are a long-time fan of Delius or a newcomer to his work, this album is sure to provide a rewarding and enjoyable listening experience.

About Frederick Delius

Frederick Delius, born into a wealthy mercantile family in Bradford, England, was a composer who defied conventional paths. Rather than following his family's wishes to enter the world of commerce, Delius pursued his passion for music. In 1884, he was sent to Florida to manage an orange plantation, but his heart was not in the business. Instead, he immersed himself in the local music and culture, which significantly influenced his compositions. Returning to Europe in 1886, Delius dedicated himself to his true calling, creating a body of work that reflects his unique experiences and artistic vision.
