Kenny Wheeler showcases his lovely trumpet tone and impressive range on his four original compositions, with three tracks exceeding the ten-minute mark. Accompanied by ECM mainstays Jan Garbarek (tenor and soprano sax), guitarist John Abercrombie, bassist Dave Holland, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and (on one track) guitarist Ralph Towner, Wheeler crafts a set that's rich in lyricism and romantic atmospheres. This is a truly delightful collection of his original music.
I've always believed in not judging what I can't comprehend. As I listen to this piece, I find myself enjoying it more, yet grasping it less. It resists any kind of analytical assessment. There are some truly outstanding solos, and a few that are quite peculiar.
