Product description

Isabelle van Keulen, a renowned violinist, presents a captivating collection of violin sonatas by three French masters: Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, and Francis Poulenc. Released on March 31, 1995, under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, this album is a testament to Van Keulen's virtuosity and her deep understanding of these works.

The album opens with Debussy's Violin Sonata in G Minor, a piece known for its unique blend of impressionism and classical structure. Van Keulen's interpretation brings out the sonata's intricate details and subtle nuances, offering a fresh perspective on this well-loved work.

Next, the album features Fauré's Violin Sonata No. 1 in A Major, Op. 13. This sonata is a cornerstone of the violin repertoire, and Van Keulen's performance showcases her technical prowess and expressive depth. The four movements of this sonata are played with a sensitivity that highlights Fauré's lyrical genius.

The album concludes with Poulenc's Violin Sonata, FP 119. This sonata is a vibrant and dynamic piece, and Van Keulen's rendition captures its spirited energy and rhythmic complexity. Her playing is both precise and passionate, making this a standout performance of Poulenc's work.

Throughout the album, Van Keulen's playing is characterized by its clarity, warmth, and emotional resonance. Her interpretations are both respectful of the composers' intentions and infused with her own artistic vision. This album is a must-listen for anyone interested in French chamber music and the violin sonata repertoire.
