Product description

David Oistrakh, a name synonymous with virtuosity and profound musical insight, delivers an exquisite collection of works in "David Oistrakh Plays Sibelius and Szymanowski." Released on February 1, 2014, under Regis Records, this album is a testament to Oistrakh's mastery of the violin, showcasing his interpretations of compositions by Jean Sibelius and Karol Szymanowski.

The album spans a duration of 1 hour and 10 minutes, featuring seven tracks that encapsulate the essence of classical music. Oistrakh's performance of Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47, is a highlight, with its three movements—Allegro moderato, Adagio di molto, and Allegro ma non troppo—each revealing the depth and range of Oistrakh's artistry. The concerto is complemented by the Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 38, with its Vivace assai - Vivace scherzando and Cadenza movements, demonstrating Oistrakh's technical brilliance and expressive depth.

Szymanowski's Romance No. 1 in G Major, Op. 40, and Romance No. 2 in F Major, Op. 50, add a touch of elegance and lyricism to the collection. These pieces, along with the concertos, are performed with the accompaniment of renowned orchestras such as the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra and The Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Ormandy.

This album is a must-listen for classical music enthusiasts and anyone seeking to experience the timeless beauty of these compositions. David Oistrakh's interpretations bring a new dimension to these works, making this album a valuable addition to any music lover's collection.

About David Oistrakh

David Oistrakh, a titan of 20th-century classical music, was a Soviet Russian violinist, violist, and conductor whose name is synonymous with virtuosity and artistry. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1908, Oistrakh began his violin studies at a tender age and quickly rose to prominence, earning the nickname "the Eastern Paganini." His exceptional technique and rich tone production made him one of the most-recorded violinists of all time, with a repertoire that spanned concerti, sonatas, and Soviet masterworks.

Oistrakh's career was marked by numerous premieres of works by renowned composers such as Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Khachaturian.
