Product description

Dive into the captivating world of contemporary classical music with Chaya Czernowin's "Shu Hai Practices Javelin," a compelling album released in 2002 under Mode Records. This album showcases the innovative and boundary-pushing compositions of Israeli composer Chaya Czernowin, who is renowned for her unique and powerful musical language.

"Shu Hai Practices Javelin" is a collection of seven tracks that blend orchestral and electronic elements, featuring the extraordinary vocal talents of Ute Wassermann. The album includes the intricate "6 Miniatures and a Simultaneous Song" and the expansive "Shu Hai in an Orchestral Setting," which is divided into four parts. Additionally, the album presents "Shu Hai mitamen behatalat kidon" in two parts, adding a layer of depth and complexity to the listening experience.

Recorded in various settings, including the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Art in Brisbane, Australia, this album offers a rich tapestry of sounds and textures. The Basel Sinfonietta, conducted by Johannes Kalitzke, provides a robust orchestral backdrop, while live electronics add a modern twist. The collaboration between Czernowin and Wassermann results in a hauntingly beautiful and technically demanding vocal performance that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

With a duration of over an hour, "Shu Hai Practices Javelin" is a testament to Czernowin's ability to create immersive and thought-provoking musical landscapes. Whether you are a seasoned fan of contemporary classical music or a curious newcomer, this album offers a rewarding and engaging listening experience that highlights the artistry of one of today's most innovative composers.
