I wouldn't necessarily suggest COSMIC WHEELS as the first Donovan album for newcomers to his music, but I just found out that when I played "The Intergalactic Laxative" for my cousin, who was around 8 or 9 years old at the time, it sparked her interest in his music years later, and now she's a fan! Hooray. That being said, you might view COSMIC WHEELS as Donovan's glam rock phase. It hits the mark at times ("Earth Sign Man", the title song), but his vocal performance on "Wild Witch Lady" can be a bit hard to listen to. The sound quality of this pressing is excellent, with a good balance from start to finish. My copy plays smoothly, with only the occasional faint surface noise.
I stumbled upon this gem in the Goodwill bins for next to nothing. After giving it a thorough clean, I've uncovered a psychedelic masterpiece that ranks among the coolest albums out there. I'm lucky the cover wasn't ruined by crayon scribbles. The tracks on this record are incredibly groovy with that deep, driving psych sound. The lyrics are both cleverly written and delivered. I'd go as far as to say this rivals Syd Barrett's work. In fact, it might even be a bit cooler?
This is the highly sought-after Lee Hulko/George Peckam cut, and it sounds amazing. The Pecko side is a tad better than the LH side and certainly beats the double LH sides I've listened to. The Pecko stamper hails from the UK. This is the USA press you want to have.
