This is the sole album Groove Holmes ever cut for Blue Note, and it's a fantastic slab of funky soul jazz. Some of the best tracks are "Groovin' For Mr. G.", "Wave", "This Here", and "Down Home Funk", which truly embodies its name with an awesome beat and a mean organ riff. Weldon Irvine lends his electric piano skills to six out of seven songs, and it seems to inspire Holmes to explore a looser, freer style. The pressing is top-notch, with deep lows, great separation, and a rich, full sound...another stellar RVG recording. My copy is in superb shape, with hardly any surface noise. It's one of Holmes' finest works.
