Chinese Democracy leaves me with a bit of a conflicted impression. There are some fantastic tracks that could've easily found a home on an Use Your Illusion III, and there are some fresh ideas that stand out. However, it feels overdone, overly refined, and misses that raw energy. Plus, the lack of original members like Slash and Duff McKagan sometimes makes it hard for me to fully accept Chinese Democracy as a genuine Guns N' Roses record.
The EU version I got (no pirate logo on the back) sounds amazing. It's a fantastic pressing.
Incredible, utterly phenomenal colossal sound that's simply mind-blowing. Without a doubt, the best rock album of the 21st century in my opinion, and this vinyl is a must-have for any GN'R fan, though it's an absolute necessity for those dedicated to the Chinese Democracy era. It's different yet just as amazing as the classic golden era stuff from 1986-1993. Every track on this album is equally brilliant, with the music alone being unmatched in its greatness from start to finish. Axl's power ballads truly shine here, with masterpieces like There Was A Time, Street Of Dreams, Catcher In The Rye, Madagascar, This I Love & Prostitute standing out as the album's highlights, as well as being top-tier Guns N' Roses songs. It's a real bummer that the 1999 single Oh My God wasn't included in its finalized updated form, as that song is killer and would have fit perfectly among these tracks.
My copy of this pressing is flawless, although I've noticed some folks having trouble here in the comments section. Maybe giving your records a good, thorough cleaning could sort things out. I came across a comment about quality control being off for this release, which might explain why some copies sound better than others. But honestly, this album is a must-have, especially for that track "Sorry" alone! It's an amazing album that ranks super high on my list of top GnR records. I'd put it in second place, with "Appetite" taking the top spot. I don't mind that the lineup isn't the original one, the songs make up for it completely! And let's not forget Buckethead, another reason to grab this album!
