Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, a pivotal figure who bridged the gap between the Baroque and Classical eras. This album, "Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: 3 Concertos," released in 1990 under the prestigious RCA Red Seal label, offers a stunning collection of flute concertos that showcase Bach's innovative spirit and masterful compositional prowess.

The album features three distinct concertos, each a testament to Bach's ability to blend the ornate Baroque style with the emerging Classical sensibilities of his time. The Flute Concerto in G Major, H.445, Wq. 169, opens with a lively "Allegro di molto," followed by a serene "Largo" and a spirited "Presto." The Concerto for Flute and Strings in A Major, H. 438, Wq. 168, presents a similar structure, with its "Allegro," "Largo con sordini, mesto," and "Allegro assai" movements offering a rich tapestry of emotions and technical brilliance. The Concerto for Flute and Strings in D Minor, H 426, Wq. 22, concludes the album with its dramatic "Allegro," reflective "Un poco andante," and exhilarating "Allegro di molto."

Each concerto is a journey through the evolution of musical style, highlighting Bach's unique voice and his significant contributions to the development of Western classical music. The performances on this album are meticulously crafted, capturing the essence of Bach's compositions and bringing them to life with clarity and passion. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a must-listen, offering a rich and rewarding exploration of one of history's most influential composers.

About Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, born in 1714, was a pioneering composer who seamlessly bridged the Baroque and Classical periods, carving out his own distinctive musical identity beyond the shadow of his renowned father, Johann Sebastian Bach. As the second surviving son, Carl Philipp Emanuel's compositions are celebrated for their approachable yet innovative nature, characterised by unexpected, angular melodies and a dynamic, energetic spirit. His works, including his influential sonatas for keyboard and violin, have left a lasting impact on the classical music landscape.

Beyond his compositions, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was also a notable performer and music publisher. His Essay on the True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments, published in 1753, remains a significant contribution to musical pedagogy. Throughout his career, he was both revered and criticised for his bold musical departures, solidifying his status as a transitional figure in music history. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach passed away in 1788, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire and captivate audiences today.
