Chilling, suspenseful, and deeply moving soundtrack to Ruggero Deodato's infamous exploitation stunner. Unusual, off-pitch instrumentation utilized brilliantly, with a couple of groovy tunes added later on for extra flair. A prime instance of a score being FAR too exceptional for the movie it's paired with!
In terms of presentation, this is truly the definitive edition of this soundtrack. It includes multiple prints of the various artwork concepts, a gatefold, history, interviews, and even color swirl vinyl that brings to mind the famous 'turtle scene'. As a whole, it really encapsulates the spirit of the movie. Regarding sound quality, when I compare it to my often-played 1995 CD version by Lucertola, it's a bit quieter but still very enjoyable, and a true tribute to one of Riz Ortolani's finest works. Be cautious when purchasing this from discogs: the first copy I received (bought directly from OWS) had noticeable pops during the opening theme, but the label was more than helpful in replacing it. I'm not sure you'd get the same level of service buying from the resale market.
It's a pity black isn't an option.
The soundtrack on this is absolutely incredible! Though, the image inside the gatefold is pretty wild and not the most pleasant to gaze at, you know? Haha. Also, the sound quality of this pressing is just fantastic.
Having loved the film, I'm absolutely thrilled with this fantastic deluxe edition! The art, the poster… currently, it's my all-time favorite record :D
