The raving reviews aren't lying, this pressing is a masterpiece. It's incredibly quiet (like, MOFI SuperVinyl from the 80s quiet, no joke) with stunning, crystal-clear sound. It's a completely different experience compared to the Qobuz digital version.
I picked up the Baby Blue edition, along with the CD and this one. Absolutely fantastic pressing! It's crystal clear, quiet, with an impressive soundstage and separation. Lindsey's leads are outstanding, the vocal harmonies are superb, and the bass is nice and clean. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect (I was quite doubtful), but you can instantly tell this one's superior to the blue version. The liner notes are a great addition - I thought the blue one was shockingly bare (and the CD too - just a lousy card sleeve). One thing to note - these reissues have some weirdly thick gatefolds! They don't fit in most regular outer sleeves and are a tight squeeze in my largest one. Never had this issue, not even with double albums! Strange. But again, it's a great pressing. Totally worth it.
Kevin Gray is truly on a roll here, and it's almost unfair how easily he keeps delivering these top-notch reissues. I'm baffled by his consistency, and the effortless quality he brings to each release is almost too good to be true. The instrumental clarity on this disc is phenomenal, with Lindsay Buckingham's acoustic guitar taking center stage. His strumming is so crisp and distinct that I found myself captivated by his solos throughout the album. The spaciousness of these acoustic tracks is mesmerizing, enhanced by the incredibly quiet background that accompanies them. I can't quite pinpoint whether this is due to Kevin Gray's mastering skills or an impeccable source tape, but the result is simply stunning. The overall sound is well-balanced, with a wide soundstage and that signature Kevin Gray touch in the bass and sub-bass regions. His mastering style is unmistakable, and thankfully, it's usually outstanding. As for the pressing, Optimal has done their usual stellar job—the record spins perfectly flat and plays quietly. My only minor gripe is with the Rhino Hi-Fi gatefold, which doesn't fit in most of my resealable sleeves except for one specific brand. Trimming the jacket by a couple of millimeters would make a world of difference, but maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. All in all, I'm over the moon with this release and can't wait to see what Rhino has up their sleeve for 2026!
I'd rather have this Kevin Gray cut than the 2025 baby blue version. It's way more dynamic, the bass is improved, and it plays fantastic. If you're unsure, go for this one.
Yet another great album that got a decent amount of spins on WHFS in the D.C. region when it first came out, which is exactly when I picked up my copy. Still sounds as good as new today.
