Raphael Wallfisch, born in London in 1953, is a celebrated English cellist renowned for his extensive discography and his commitment to exploring the full range of classical music. With over 70 recordings to his name, Wallfisch is one of the most recorded classical artists in the world, showcasing his versatility and curiosity through a diverse repertoire that includes works by composers like Elgar, Vivaldi, and Myaskovsky. Born into a family of distinguished musicians, his mother Anita Lasker-Wallfisch and his father, a pianist, instilled in him a deep love for music. Wallfisch's passion extends beyond performing; he is also a dedicated educator, teaching masterclasses globally and holding professorships in Switzerland. His recordings, such as the First Cello Concerto for Chandos, have earned critical acclaim, solidifying his status as a leading figure in the classical music world. Wallfisch's personal life is equally rich, as he is married to violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch and is the father of three talented children: Simon, Joanna, and Benjamin.
