About Johanna Martzy

Johanna Martzy, the gifted Hungarian violinist, was born on October 26, 1924, in Timișoara, Romania. A prodigy of Jenő Hubay, the renowned head of the Budapest Academy, Martzy's career was marked by extraordinary talent and a brief yet brilliant trajectory. Her performances captivated audiences, and her recordings, such as her interpretations of Bach's Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin and Schubert's works for Violin and Piano, remain cherished by classical music enthusiasts. Despite her career being cut short by her untimely death from cancer on August 13, 1979, in Switzerland at the age of 54, Martzy's legacy endures.
