Product description

Ida Haendel, a renowned violinist with a career spanning over seven decades, presents a captivating collection of violin concertos in this album. Released on October 1, 2008, by SWRmusic, the album features two iconic works: Johannes Brahms' Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77, and Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64.

The Brahms concerto, composed in 1878, is celebrated for its lyrical depth and technical demands, with Haendel's performance showcasing her virtuosic prowess and expressive nuance. The concerto is structured in three movements: the expansive and dramatic first movement, the tender and introspective second movement, and the lively and rhythmic third movement.

Mendelssohn's concerto, written in 1844, is known for its melodic beauty and structural ingenuity. Haendel's interpretation brings out the concerto's inspired moments and wonderful themes, with the three movements played without pause, creating a seamless and engaging listening experience.

Recorded in 1953 and 1955, these performances capture Haendel at the height of her powers, offering a testament to her enduring legacy as one of the most distinguished violinists of the 20th century. With a total duration of 1 hour and 7 minutes, this album is a treasure trove for classical music enthusiasts, providing a glimpse into the artistry of Ida Haendel and the timeless appeal of these violin concertos.
