Absolutely fantastic sounding record, with a clarity and depth that truly highlights the expansive nature of the stereo mix, which sounds so vibrant and present it's unbelievable. The bass is incredibly deep and powerful too...

great record pressing. the vinyl is quiet and sounds nice! the cover is also good quality. The soundstage might seem a bit strange if you're not familiar with older stereo pressings, but I still really enjoy listening to it.
I can't really add much more to what's already been said, this is absolutely amazing. I'd genuinely do anything, give up an arm and a leg, for Simon to allow MOFI to create a mono version.
This record sounds fantastic, and my copy is super quiet. I've done a comparison with a US first pressing and some later US reissues. Honestly, I believe the Columbia versions sound superior (with the first press being just a tad better, but the difference between early handwritten matrices and stamped ones is minimal). There are a couple of things to consider, though. This remaster really cleans up the vocals, the harshness is still present but not as prominent as on the early pressings. Plus, there's a noticeable boost in the bass, which, thanks to Kevin Gray, is a joy to listen to. The Columbia pressings have a certain presence and clarity, particularly in the acoustic guitars and other effects (it's much easier to discern everything happening in a track like A2). The vinyl on Columbia pressings isn't terrible, it's just not exceptional, fairly quiet which is aided by the fact that most Columbia pressings are mastered quite loud but in the lead-in's and the opening track it is noticeable and can be a bit distracting. I think this pressing is well worth owning just for the improved vocals and enhanced bass alone, so don't hesitate to grab it at a reasonable price. Personally, though, I still prefer the US first press. I think if Gray had a better source, even though we can't be sure what he was given, this could have been the definitive version. Also, has anyone else noticed that side one sounds a bit better than side two? Maybe it's just my ears.
