Don't be misled by the short description at the top of the page: Apart from being a re-release, this album is a thorough remaster of the original Orbison's Black & White Night powerful concert. I refer to it as a "thorough remaster" because there's a clear, noticeable shift in how the concert is presented sonically: While in the original version Mr. Orbison's voice was at the same volume as the band, with a balanced presentation of all elements playing quite equally, in this version the focus is clearly on Roy's voice, ever-present across the soundstage with occasional emphasis on individual instruments, depending on the song or moment. The audience's presence is now less noticeable than in the original version. As for the new tracks, since this release is recorded on two discs there's space for adding songs that couldn't be included in the original, single-disc version. In that regard, the addition of Blue Angel, Claudette or a short, additional version of Pretty Woman is very welcome (personally I think Blue Angel is amazing). Lastly, recording and pressing quality: About the recording, and being objectively exposed to how this remaster differs from the original, the sound quality is fantastic (no compression, no distortion, nothing to criticize). However, the pressing isn't as good: although it arrived in perfect condition, my copy has occasional noise always in the same tracks, at the same moment, only on the left channel. This is the same issue, though not as severe, as that described by some owners (including me) of the Legacy 2018 reissue of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. Interestingly, Legacy is the same company publishing this record, presenting the same problem. This is why I didn't give this record five stars.
This record has fantastic sound quality. I'm not convinced a remastered version is necessary. It's still a bargain LP, so if you come across a pristine copy, grab it immediately. It reminds me of the original broadcast and brings back all those memories. The clarity and detail are excellent.
Amazing audio quality here. It's like you're right there in front of the band, with the music coming through clear, crisp, and perfect. I'm still stunned that he's been gone since 1988, and even more shocking, he was only 52 when he passed away. This version doesn't have tracks 6 & 7 on Side A, which you might find on other releases.
Received an authentic promo version, it sounds fantastic from start to finish. I'm thrilled that this one has a perfect balance between the band and the vocals, unlike the 30-year remaster which seems to emphasize the vocals. The original has amazing musicality, clarity, and captures the warmth of a live show. Absolutely overjoyed!
Silent, no snaps or creaks with my version. It's never sounded this good.
