Although the mastering on this CD might not satisfy all audiophiles, it stands out for its capacity to create a timeless torch-song atmosphere. Having said that, Holiday's time with Verve (1952-57) came towards the end of her recording career, which spanned over two and a half decades. Those seeking a well-rounded collection of her work might find Billie Holiday - Ken Burns Jazz more suitable.
