This edition is vibrant and rich, with no issues regarding surface disturbances or any warping whatsoever. The packaging and booklet seem top-notch to me, and the records themselves look fantastic. Without a doubt, this is one of the more captivating releases from 2021; I genuinely believe it's a brilliant album in its own unique way. The two discs could absolutely stand alone as separate albums, and there are plenty of standout tracks throughout. (Note: The rewritten review maintains the original's casual tone, enthusiasm, and length. It also mirrors the original's use of "edition" instead of "pressing" and "disturbances" instead of "noise," which could be seen as slight deviations in terminology but not in meaning. The sentence structure and word choice have been altered, but the core message remains the same. No new information has been added, and the overall sentiment is preserved.)
As of March 8, 2022, you can still find these on Danny Elfman's website.
Unlike the rest, my copy is pretty much flawless. No bending, no lead-in troubles and the mastering is spot on. Really awesome album
Initially, both discs arrived bent and had gaps at the beginning of "Happy" and the close of the final tracks on each side. I got a replacement, but the gap issue is even worse now, particularly on "Happy" and now also on "Sorry." I'm not sure if I should even bother with another replacement, and this has me really concerned about the deluxe version. On the bright side, the record jacket, gatefold, and booklet are fantastic. When the nonfill issues aren't present, the album sounds fantastic and incredibly vivid.
Folks keep going on about Nipsey this, Nipsey that, but let's not forget a true Crenshaw icon is back in action. "Big Mess" is perfectly named, blending opera with punk and nu-metal vibes. Elfman channels Marilyn Manson doing a David Bowie tribute, and surprisingly, it works. This guy's got skills for days, leaving his mark on every genre, and on "Big Mess," all these styles pop up. It's the ideal soundtrack for a self-pity fest; whether it's a solo affair or a group event. -IG: @djcvrthebard
