Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of June Christy's "Big Band Specials," a captivating journey through the golden era of vocal jazz and big band music. Released on March 1, 1963, under the Capitol Catalog label, this album is a testament to Christy's velvety vocals and the swinging rhythms of the era. With a runtime of 32 minutes, it's a concise yet powerful collection that showcases Christy's ability to infuse classic tunes with her unique charm and sophistication.

The album opens with the lively "You Came A Long Way From St. Louis," setting the stage for a series of swing classics and cool jazz gems. Standout tracks like "Prelude To A Kiss" and "A Night In Tunisia" highlight Christy's versatility and the dynamic interplay between her voice and the big band arrangements. The inclusion of standards like "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" and "Stompin' At The Savoy" pays homage to the rich musical heritage that inspired Christy and her contemporaries.

"Big Band Specials" is not just a compilation of songs but a celebration of June Christy's artistry and the enduring appeal of big band music. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to her work, this album offers a delightful blend of swing, cool jazz, and vocal prowess that transcends generations.

This is a 1985 Reissue released as a LP.

I believe this is a mid-70s reissue, as the catalog number ECJ-60001 corresponds to Sinatra's 1976 release, while the next series, ECJ-70000, is from the 80's.
