Product description

Marie-Nicole Lemieux, the renowned Canadian mezzo-soprano, presents a captivating collection of French romantic and impressionist songs in her latest album, featuring works by Berlioz, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns. Recorded with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo under the direction of Kazuki Yamada, this album offers a rich and diverse exploration of the human experience through music.

The album opens with Hector Berlioz's "Les Nuits d'été," a song cycle that delves into themes of love, loss, and longing. Lemieux's powerful and nuanced voice brings each of the six poems to life, creating a deeply moving journey through the complexities of the heart. The cycle culminates in "L'île inconnue," a hauntingly beautiful exploration of the unknown and the unattainable.

Next, the album turns to Maurice Ravel's "Shéhérazade," a set of three songs inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights. Lemieux's voice shimmers with exoticism and allure, drawing the listener into the enchanting world of the Orient. The final song, "L'indifférent," is a poignant reflection on the pain of unrequited love.

The album concludes with Camille Saint-Saëns' "Mélodies persanes," a collection of songs that blend French romanticism with Persian-inspired melodies. Lemieux's voice soars and shimmers, creating a mesmerizing tapestry of sound that transports the listener to a world of mystery and intrigue.

Throughout the album, Lemieux's voice is supported by the lush and expressive playing of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo. The orchestra's nuanced phrasing and rich tonal palette bring out the full depth and complexity of these works, creating a listening experience that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant.

This album is a testament to Marie-Nicole Lemieux's artistry and versatility as a singer. Her ability to convey the full range of human emotion through her voice is truly remarkable, and her interpretations of these works are both deeply personal and universally resonant. Whether you are a fan of French art song, a lover of classical music, or simply someone who appreciates the power of the human voice, this album is sure to captivate and inspire you.
