Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless artistry of Erna Berger, one of the most celebrated sopranos of the 20th century, with her captivating album "A Vocal Portrait." Released on March 1, 2003, by Naxos, this collection is a treasure trove of 17 exquisite arias from both opera and operetta, showcasing Berger's unparalleled vocal prowess and emotional depth. Spanning a rich history of recordings from 1934 to 1949, this album offers a unique glimpse into the golden age of opera, featuring iconic works by composers such as Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, and Donizetti.

From the hauntingly beautiful "Der Holle Rache" from Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" to the tender "Un bel di vedremo" from Puccini's "Madama Butterfly," Berger's voice shines with clarity, passion, and an unmistakable charm. The album also includes lesser-known gems like "Ines de Castro" by Meyerbeer and "Fra Diavolo" by Auber, demonstrating Berger's versatility and mastery of a wide range of styles.

The orchestral accompaniments, meticulously restored and produced by Ward Marston, provide a rich and immersive backdrop to Berger's performances, making this album not just a listening experience but a journey through the evolution of operatic artistry. Whether you are a seasoned opera enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "A Vocal Portrait" is a must-listen, offering a profound and enjoyable exploration of Erna Berger's extraordinary career.
