Product description

David Oistrakh, a name synonymous with virtuosity and profound musicality, presents a captivating album that showcases his mastery of the violin. This collection, featuring Ludwig van Beethoven's iconic Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61, and the intense Violin Sonata No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47 "Kreutzer," is a testament to Oistrakh's technical brilliance and emotional depth. The album is rounded out with a selection of enchanting encores, including works by Debussy, Falla, Tchaikovsky, Ysaÿe, and Wieniawski, each arranged for violin and piano, demonstrating Oistrakh's versatility and artistry.

The Violin Concerto, with its majestic opening, tender second movement, and spirited finale, is a cornerstone of the violin repertoire. Oistrakh's interpretation, coupled with the cadenzas by Fritz Kreisler, is a blend of power and sensitivity that has stood the test of time. The "Kreutzer" Sonata, known for its demanding technical passages and emotional complexity, is performed with a clarity and passion that highlight Oistrakh's exceptional skill.

The encores offer a delightful contrast, featuring the serene beauty of Debussy's "Clair de lune," the fiery energy of Falla's "Jota," and the lyrical elegance of Tchaikovsky's "Valse-scherzo." Ysaÿe's "Extase" and Wieniawski's "Légende" further showcase Oistrakh's ability to convey a wide range of emotions and styles.

Recorded with meticulous attention to detail, this album is a celebration of Oistrakh's enduring legacy. The sound quality is impeccable, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the nuances of Oistrakh's playing. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience. David Oistrakh's interpretation of these timeless works is a true masterclass in violin playing, making this album a cherished addition to any music collection.
