Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Franz Joseph Clement, a virtuoso violinist and composer who left an indelible mark on the classical music scene. "Beethoven's World - Clement: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 & 2" is a stunning collection of Clement's violin concertos, performed by the exceptional Mirijam Contzen with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, under the direction of Reinhard Goebel. Released on January 10, 2020, by Sony Classical/Sony Music, this album offers a rich, 71-minute journey through the intricate and expressive compositions of Clement.

The album features two full concertos, each divided into three movements, showcasing the full range of Clement's musical prowess. The Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major begins with an Allegro maestoso, followed by a serene Adagio and a lively Rondo. The Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor opens with a Moderato, transitions into a poignant Adagio, and concludes with a spirited Rondo. Each piece is a testament to Clement's ability to blend technical brilliance with deep emotional resonance.

This recording is part of a five-disc project that delves into lesser-known works by Beethoven and his contemporaries, highlighting the influential circle in which Clement thrived. The collaboration between Mirijam Contzen, the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, and Reinhard Goebel brings a fresh and dynamic interpretation to these timeless pieces, making it a must-listen for classical music enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Whether you're a seasoned listener or new to the world of classical music, this album promises an enriching and enjoyable experience.

About Franz Clement

Franz Clement, born on November 17 or 18, 1780, in Vienna, was a prodigious Austrian musician whose talents spanned violin, piano, composition, and conducting. Renowned for his virtuosity, Clement was known to perform complex pieces from memory after only a brief glance at the score. He served as the director and concertmaster of Vienna's Theater an der Wien, leaving an indelible mark on the city's musical landscape. Clement's legacy is further cemented by his association with Ludwig van Beethoven, for whom he was the dedicatee of Beethoven's Violin Concerto. Intriguingly, just a year before Beethoven's concerto premiered, Clement composed his own Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor. His contributions to music, both as a performer and a composer, continue to captivate audiences and musicians alike.
