Product description

Immerse yourself in the intricate world of Béla Bartók's piano compositions with "Bartók, Vol. 5: Complete Works for Piano Solo – Bartók-Reschofsky Piano Method & Mikrokosmos." This captivating album, released on June 3, 2022, under the haenssler CLASSIC label, is the fifth and final installment in Andreas Bach's comprehensive survey of Bartók's solo piano music. Spanning a concise yet engaging 33 minutes, the album is a treasure trove of classical and neoclassical piano pieces that showcase Bartók's unique compositional style and innovative teaching methods.

The album features a meticulous selection of excerpts from the Bartók-Reschofsky Piano Method, a collaborative work that highlights Bartók's pedagogical approach to piano playing. These excerpts, ranging from No. 7 to No. 120, offer a progressive journey through various technical and musical challenges, making them an invaluable resource for pianists of all levels. Titles such as "Walking," "Little Invention," "Dialogue," "Folk-Song," "Swineherd's Dance," and "Wedding Song" provide a glimpse into the diverse and imaginative repertoire that Bartók and Reschofsky crafted for piano students.

In addition to the Bartók-Reschofsky Piano Method excerpts, the album also includes selections from Bartók's monumental "Mikrokosmos," a collection of 153 short, progressive piano pieces composed between 1932 and 1939. The album presents the first two unison melodies from Volume 1 of "Mikrokosmos," offering a taste of the pedagogical and musical depth that this seminal work provides. These pieces are not only educational tools but also stand as beautiful, standalone compositions that demonstrate Bartók's mastery of the piano and his ability to create music that is both accessible and profound.

Andreas Bach's interpretation of these works is both sensitive and precise, bringing out the nuances and complexities of Bartók's compositions. His performance is a testament to the enduring relevance and beauty of Bartók's music, making this album a must-listen for anyone interested in classical piano repertoire. Whether you are a seasoned pianist, a music student, or simply a lover of classical music, "Bartók, Vol. 5" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that celebrates the genius of Béla Bartók and his enduring contributions to the world of piano music.

About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
