Bartok: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 - Béla Bartók

Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Béla Bartók, one of the 20th century's most influential composers, with the release of "Bartok: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2." This album, released on July 15, 2014, under the Hungaroton label, offers a mesmerizing journey through Bartók's masterful violin concertos, showcasing his unique blend of classical and neoclassical styles.

The album features two complete violin concertos, each divided into multiple movements, totaling five tracks that span approximately 57 minutes. The first concerto, Sz. 36, begins with a serene "Andante sostenuto" and transitions into a lively "Allegro giocoso." The second concerto, Sz. 112, is a three-movement work, starting with an "Allegro non troppo," followed by an "Andante tranquillo," and culminating in an exhilarating "Allegro molto."

Bartók's Violin Concerto No. 1 was published posthumously in 1956, after the composer's death, but it showcases his distinctive style and innovative approach to composition. The concerto's opening movement was originally part of Bartók's Two Portraits, Op. 5, demonstrating his ability to reuse and transform his musical ideas.

This album is a testament to Bartók's genius and his enduring influence on classical music. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Bartok: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience, highlighting the depth and breadth of Bartók's musical legacy.

About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
