Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless brilliance of Béla Bartók's "Piano Concerto No. 3 & Dance Suite, Sz. 77," a classical masterpiece that showcases the composer's unparalleled genius. Released in 1960 under the BNF Collection label, this album is a captivating journey through Bartók's neoclassical and classical piano compositions, spanning a concise yet impactful 39 minutes.

The album opens with Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3 in E Major, Sz. 119, a work that exemplifies the composer's distinctive style, blending folk influences with sophisticated musical techniques. The concerto is performed with exquisite precision by Géza Anda, accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Igor Markevitch. The three movements—Allegretto, Adagio religioso, and Allegro vivace—each offer a unique emotional landscape, from contemplative introspection to exhilarating vitality.

Following the concerto, the album presents the Dance Suite, Sz. 77, a six-movement suite that was originally composed for piano but later orchestrated. This suite is a vibrant exploration of dance forms, each movement offering a distinct character and rhythm. From the Moderato's graceful elegance to the Finale's lively Allegro, the Dance Suite is a testament to Bartók's ability to create music that is both technically demanding and deeply expressive.

Bartók's Piano Concertos, including the Third Concerto featured in this album, were composed over a span of nearly two decades, reflecting the evolution of his musical language. The Third Concerto, completed in 1945, is often regarded as one of his most accessible and lyrical works, making it a perfect entry point for those new to Bartók's music.

This mono version of the album captures the essence of Bartók's compositions with clarity and depth, offering a rich listening experience that highlights the intricate interplay between the piano and the orchestra. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Bartók's work, this album is a treasure trove of musical innovation and beauty.

About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
